The MET Gala has served as a fashion banquet for years as celebrities, critics, and the commoner on their couch come together in the name of elaborately themed looks. In a similar vein, The MESH Gala arose as a red-carpet social event to celebrate the diversity and individuality of our fashion community. In the spirit of exploring fashion design, attendees were encouraged to make their outfits. In the month leading up to the gala, we hosted weekly sewing parties to encourage collaboration and learning in a beginner-friendly environment.
As our first large scale event, we were faced with many new challenges. From raiding DollarTrees for carts full of fake roses, building an 8×8 foot photo booth, and sewing a dress in one night (personally do not recommend). Here’s how it went
